What is the best way to repair / remove dead, dry, hard skin of the elbows and knees?

My main problem is that the skin is hard, is rough, and collects dirt that does not mean getting in the shower. I've garage pumice hand cleaner used to clean with limited success. I I also got rid of the problem temporarily with a sanding sponge scotch from home depot. It works, but it's not the most comfortable. I've tried lotions, but nothing helped. Any suggestions? Hard, dry dead skin must be soft before it effectivley removed.Try application think one moisturizer / cream on the problem areas before you can be in the shower.This, let loose the steam and moisturizer, the majority of the dead skin.Then i would scour the area twice a day with a loofah while your shower.Harsh methods only allow the skin to grow back even harder / tougher than before.It is better week.That one's my promise!
